Xylene is a clear, colorless and fragrant solution of three aromatic hydrocarbon isomers produced from crude oil through a process called alkylation. Xylene consists of three different isomers: paraxylene, orthoxylene and metaxylene. Xylene can be natural and artificial and is widely used as a solvent in the leather, rubber and printing industries. Other applications of xylene are intermediate chemical products and high gasoline mixers for machinery and aviation. Xylene is also used in breathing apparatus (inhalers) to regulate artificial respiration because of its nature.
