Low density polyethylene (LDPE) is a thermoplastic made from petroleum. First produced by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in 1933 using high pressure and free radical polymerization. LDPE can be recycled, and has number 4 in the recycling symbol.
LDPE has a fairly wide application, especially as a packaging container. Other products from LDPE include:
