Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is a mixture of closely related organic compounds derived from coconut oil and dimethylaminopropylamine. Cocamidopropyl betaine is used as a foam enhancer for shampoo. This is a medium strength surfactant which is also used in bath products such as hand soap. This is also used in cosmetics as emulsifying xat and thickener, and to reduce pure irritation will cause ionic surfactants. It also functions as an antistatic agent in hair conditioners, which most often does not irritate the skin or mucous membranes.
