Specification of Sorbitol / Glusitol
Sorbitol, Sugar Substitute. Sorbitol, also known as glucitol, is a sugar alcohol that is metabolized slowly in the body. Sorbitol is obtained from the reduction of glucose, converting the aldehyde group to a hydroxyl group, so that it is called sugar alcohol. Sorbitol powder is a type of non-sugar sweetener made from high quality dextrose through hydrogenation and distillation. This is less sweet than sucrose and cannot be absorbed by some bacteria. It also has characteristics of better moisture retention, acid resistance and non-fermentation.
Application usage:
- Sorbitol powder is used as a diluent in tablet, capsule and powder formulations (wet granulation)
- Sorbitol powder works as a sweetening agent in tablets and sachets.
- Sorbitol powder can be a plasticizer for gelatin capsules
