Phenol or carbolic acid or benzene is a colorless crystalline substance that has a distinctive odor. The chemical formula is C6H5OH and the structure has a hydroxyl (-OH) group which binds to the phenyl ring. Phenol is the main component in trade aniseptics, trichlorophenol otherwise known as TCP (trichlorophenol).
