Specification of n-Butyl Alcohol (Butanol)
n-Butanol or n-butyl alcohol or normal butanol is the primary alcohol with a 4-carbon structure, and has the chemical formula C4H9OH. The isomers include isobutanol, 2-butanol, and tert-butanol. Butanol is one of the "fusel alcohol" groups (from German for "en: bad liquor"), which have more than two carbon atoms and are easily soluble in water.
n-Butanol is an intermediate product in the production of butyl acrylate, butyl acetate, dibutyl flatat, dibutyl sebakat, and other butyl esters, butyl ethers such as ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and triethylene glycol monobutyl ether and associated butyl ether acetate. Other industrial uses include manufacturing pharmaceuticals, polymers, plastic pyroxylins, herbicide esters, printing and butyl xanthate. It is also used as a diluent / reagent in the manufacture of urea-formaldehyde and melamine-resin formaldehyde.
