Magnesium oxide (MgO), or magnesia, is a solid hygroscopic white mineral that exists in nature as periklase and is a source for magnesium. Magnesium hydroxide is formed in the air (MgO + H2O → Mg (OH) 2), but can be reversed by heating to restore moisture.
Application: Refractories, especially for steel furnace coatings, polycristallyn ceramics, electrical insulation. Pharmacists, Cosmetics, inorganic rubber accelerators, fetilizer, adsorption and catalysis, food, and feed additives.
